Product Overview

The Guardian of Pipeline Integrity

Air release valves are essential pipeline protection devices that automatically release trapped air during pipeline filling and admit air during draining to prevent vacuum formation and pipeline collapse.

REW manufactures air release valves in four core configurations — Single Action, Double Action, Combination and Spindle Loaded types — per EN 1074-4 and AWWA C512 standards, from DN15 to DN300, serving Pakistan's water utilities, irrigation systems and industrial facilities since 1948.

Working Principle

Automatic Air Release

Step-by-step operation sequence of a REW air release valve — from air release to vacuum break protection.

Air Release Valve Technical Drawing
01
Pipeline Filling
As pipeline fills with water, air accumulates at high points. Air release valve automatically opens to release trapped air.
02
Air Release
Float rises with water level. When water reaches valve, float closes orifice to prevent water loss.
03
Normal Operation
During normal operation, small orifice continuously releases any accumulated air to maintain pipeline efficiency.
04
Pipeline Draining
During pipeline draining, vacuum forms. Valve automatically opens to admit air and prevent vacuum collapse.
05
Vacuum Break
Air admission prevents vacuum formation that could collapse pipeline. Protects pipeline integrity during draining.
06
Continuous Protection
Automatic operation ensures continuous pipeline protection — no external power, no manual intervention required.

Technical FAQ

Engineering Questions

Answers to the most common technical questions about REW air release valves.

What is the difference between single action and double action air release valves?+
Single action air release valves automatically release air during pipeline filling only. Double action (combination) air release valves both release air during filling AND admit air during draining to prevent vacuum formation. Double action provides complete pipeline protection.
What are the four types of air release valves REW manufactures?+
REW manufactures four core configurations: (1) Single Action — automatic air release during filling, (2) Double Action — air release and vacuum break, (3) Combination — large and small orifice combination, (4) Spindle Loaded — manual override capability.
What is the size range for REW air release valves?+
REW manufactures air release valves from DN15 to DN300 (½" to 12"). Single action types available from 15mm to 50mm. Double action and combination types from 15mm to 300mm.
What pressure ratings are available?+
REW air release valves are available in PN10, PN16, and PN25 pressure ratings. Shell test is performed at 1.5× working pressure per EN 1074-4 standards.
What standards do REW air release valves comply with?+
REW air release valves are manufactured to EN 1074-4 and AWWA C512 standards. Flanges conform to BS 4504, ANSI B16.5, DIN 2501 and EN 1092. Testing is per EN 1074-4 and API 598.
What body materials are available?+
Standard body materials include Cast Iron (GG25), Ductile Iron (GGG40/50), Carbon Steel (WCB), and Stainless Steel (CF8/CF8M). Float materials include stainless steel and plastic (PP, PE).
How do air release valves work?+
Air release valves use a float mechanism. During pipeline filling, air accumulates and float rises to close orifice when water reaches valve. During draining, vacuum forms and valve opens to admit air, preventing pipeline collapse.
Where should air release valves be installed?+
Air release valves should be installed at high points in pipelines where air naturally accumulates. Typical locations include pipeline peaks, pump discharge, and high points in distribution systems.
How often should air release valves be maintained?+
Recommended maintenance interval is 12-24 months depending on service conditions. Maintenance includes: float inspection, seat condition check, gasket inspection, and function test.
What is the pressure testing procedure for REW air release valves?+
Every valve undergoes: (1) Shell test at 1.5× working pressure — no visible leakage permitted. (2) Function test for automatic air release and vacuum break operation. All tests documented with certificates.
Can REW manufacture custom-sized air release valves?+
Yes. REW can manufacture air release valves in custom sizes from DN15 to DN300, custom pressure classes, special materials, and custom configurations. Custom drawings delivered within 48 hours.
What is the typical lead time for air release valve orders?+
Standard sizes (DN15-DN150): 2-4 weeks. Large sizes (DN200-DN300): 4-6 weeks. Custom sizes or special materials: 6-10 weeks. Emergency orders can be expedited.
What seat materials are available?+
REW offers EPDM seats for water service up to 80°C, NBR seats for oil service, and PTFE seats for chemical service. Seat material is matched to the service media and temperature.
What is the difference between large orifice and small orifice air release valves?+
Large orifice valves release large volumes of air rapidly during pipeline filling. Small orifice valves continuously release small amounts of air during normal operation. Combination valves have both orifices for complete protection.
What coating options are available?+
Standard coating is fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE). Options include: bitumen coating for underground service, hot-dip galvanizing, and custom RAL colors. Coating specification confirmed at time of order.
What documentation is provided with each shipment?+
Standard documentation includes: Test Report, Dimensional Inspection Report, Certificate of Compliance, and Installation/Maintenance Manual. Third-party inspection certificates available on request.
What is the warranty period for REW air release valves?+
Standard warranty is 12 months from date of commissioning or 18 months from date of shipment, whichever occurs first. Warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship.
Are spare parts available for REW air release valves?+
Yes. Complete spare parts inventory maintained for all standard sizes. Available spares include: floats, seats, gaskets, bolts/nuts, and covers. Spare parts typically dispatched within 48-72 hours.
How do I select the correct air release valve type?+
Selection depends on: (1) Pipeline size — determines valve size, (2) Pressure class — determines pressure rating, (3) Media — determines seat material, (4) Application — single action for filling only, double action for complete protection. Our technical team provides free selection guidance.
How do I request a quotation for air release valves?+
