The Society Is OnlyAs Good As What Is Buried Under It
Rehman Engineering Works casts, machines and tests the water supply, sewerage, drainage and firefighting hardware that DHA, Bahria Town, Askari, Fazaia, LDA and private housing schemes install below their roads — valves, pumps, manhole covers, gratings, penstocks and hydrants, made in Lahore since 1948.

Pakistan Now Builds Cities, Not Just Colonies
Planned housing is the largest single consumer of buried municipal hardware in the country. DHA alone operates schemes in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad–Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, Gujranwala, Peshawar and Quetta, with DHA Lahore extended through Phases I to XIII and DHA City Karachi laid out on a sector grid of its own. Bahria Town runs comparable developments in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Karachi, alongside Askari and Fazaia schemes attached to the services, LDA and PHATA-approved schemes, cantonment board colonies and hundreds of private societies from Citi Housing and Lake City to Park View, Etihad, Al-Kabir and the new smart-city projects on the motorway corridors.
Every one of those sectors is the same engineering problem repeated: tube wells and a filtration unit, an overhead or underground reservoir, a ring main with zone isolation, house connections, a gravity sewer network, a disposal station lifting to a treatment plant or trunk sewer, storm drainage, a hydrant ring for firefighting, and thousands of covers, gratings, valves and chambers holding the whole thing together under traffic.
That buried hardware is what REW has manufactured since 1948. Our foundry pours the covers, frames, gratings and valve bodies; our machine shop finishes and assembles them; our test bay hydrotests every valve before it is painted. Developers, contractors and society engineering departments buy locally, in rupees, with certificates — and get replacements in days when a cover is stolen or a valve seizes ten years later.
Aquifer to House Connection and Back
Nine systems under every sector. Drag the row sideways — each card shows exactly what REW supplies into that stage.
Source & Tube Wells
Deep tube wells, and increasingly canal or surface allocation, feed the scheme. Falling water tables in Lahore and Rawalpindi push bores deeper every phase.
Filtration & Disinfection
Iron and turbidity removal, pressure sand filters and chlorination before water enters the network — the difference between a filtration plant on the brochure and one that runs.
Storage & Reservoirs
Overhead reservoirs and underground storage tanks balance day-night demand and hold firefighting reserve for the sector.
Distribution Ring Main
Looped mains under the boulevards and streets, zoned so a single street can be isolated without dewatering a whole block.
House Connections & Metering
Ferrule connections, boundary boxes, meter chambers and consumer isolation — where leakage and unbilled water quietly accumulate.
Gravity Sewerage Network
RCC and PVC sewers on shallow gradients with manholes at every junction and change of direction. Grease, sand and rag define the maintenance load.
Disposal Station & Lifting
Wet-well disposal stations lift sewage and storm water to the trunk sewer or treatment works. In monsoon, this is the station that keeps the sector dry.
Treatment & Reuse
Aeration, clarification and sludge handling, with treated effluent increasingly reused on green belts, parks and golf courses instead of tube-well water.
Storm Drainage & Firefighting
Gully gratings, kerb inlets, storm carriers and a hydrant ring sized for the commercial and high-rise plots inside the scheme.
What Actually Fails in a Housing Scheme
Ten problems every society engineering department and development contractor in Pakistan already knows — and the engineering answer we apply.
Rocking & Cracked Manhole Covers
Light or badly seated covers rock under traffic, crack at the frame, sink below the wearing course and turn into a claim on a brand-new boulevard.
Cover Theft & Open Chambers
Scrap value makes covers disappear overnight, leaving an open shaft on a residential street and a liability the society cannot defend.
Sluice Valves That Will Not Shut
Ten years of silt, hard water and no exercising and the gate will not seat. The street cannot be isolated, so the whole zone is dewatered for one leak.
Chambers Buried and Lost
Valve and washout chambers get paved over during phase development, so the network cannot be operated at all when a burst happens.
Disposal Station Chokes
Rag, wipes, sand and construction debris block sewage impellers. The wet well surcharges and the sector floods, usually during the first heavy monsoon.
Water Hammer on Rising Mains
A power trip slams the NRV, the surge cracks joints and blows out the pump house pipework — a routine event on load-shedding-prone networks.
Aggressive Groundwater Corrosion
Saline and high-sulphate soils in parts of Karachi, Multan and Bahawalpur eat unprotected iron buried hardware within a few seasons.
Tube Well Output Falling
Static water level drops phase after phase; the existing bowls run off-curve, motors overload and the sector goes to tanker supply in June.
Green Belt Irrigation on Potable Water
Parks, medians and golf greens pumped from potable tube wells burn energy and drain the aquifer the residents drink from.
Non-Standard Sizes at Handover
Phases developed by different contractors end up with mismatched clear openings, frame depths and flange drillings, so nothing is interchangeable.

Questions From Developers & Society Engineers
Yes. We cast and machine circular and rectangular covers and frames to EN 124 classes A15, B125, C250, D400 and E600 in grey iron to ASTM A48 and ductile iron to ASTM A536 65-45-12, in clear openings from 450 mm to 900 mm, with hinged, lockable, recessed-infill and non-rock triple-seated options.
Resilient-seated sluice valves for street and zone isolation, butterfly valves on reservoir inlets and large mains, single and double orifice air valves at high points, non-return valves on pump discharge, washout valves at low points, and pillar or underground hydrants on the firefighting ring.
Yes — non-clog or vortex sewage pumps in vertical or horizontal arrangement, penstocks and stop logs, manual or mechanical bar screens, discharge manifold with NRVs and sluice valves, guide rails, lifting arrangement and wet well covers, sized against the sector population and monsoon inflow.
Yes. Vertical turbine and submersible-driven sets with bronze or stainless bowls, column and lineshaft assemblies, complete pump house pipework, non-return and sluice valves, pressure gauge and flow meter — typically 100 to 1000 US gpm against 30 to 90 m head, tested to ISO 9906 before dispatch.
Our valves are manufactured and hydrostatically tested to BS 5163, BS EN 1074, AWWA C504 and API 598 as applicable, covers to EN 124, hydrants to BS 750 and flanges to BS EN 1092, BS 4504 or ASME B16.5 — the standards normally quoted in DHA, WASA, PHED, cantonment board and consultant specifications. Client and third-party witness testing is welcome at our Lahore works.
Standard cover, grating and valve sizes are held in pattern and in stock and dispatch within days. Bulk phase quantities are scheduled against your construction programme, sector by sector, so covers and frames arrive as the roads are cast — not months early to be damaged, and not late enough to hold up the wearing course.
Yes. We match the existing clear opening and frame depth, supply hinged and lockable versions where theft is recurring, and can upgrade to heavier ductile sections without changing the chamber. Send a photograph and two dimensions and we can usually identify the pattern.
Yes. Society name, phase, sector, a logo and utility marking such as WATER, SEWERAGE, ELECTRIC or TELECOM are cast into the face from a pattern insert — negligible cost on repeat quantities and a genuine deterrent to scrap resale.
Yes. Pillar and underground hydrants, landing valves, hydrant isolation valves, hose reel cabinets and fire pump sets with jockey pump, NRVs and relief arrangement for society hydrant rings, commercial blocks, malls and high-rise apartment projects inside the scheme.
