Working Principle

Filtration Process

Step-by-step operation sequence of a REW pipeline strainer — from fluid entry to debris removal.

Strainer Technical Drawing
01
Fluid Entry
Fluid enters the strainer body through the inlet port. The fluid passes through the perforated screen or basket.
02
Filtration
Solid particles and debris are trapped by the perforated screen while clean fluid passes through to the outlet.
03
Debris Accumulation
Debris accumulates in the screen/basket over time, gradually increasing pressure drop across the strainer.
04
Cleaning & Maintenance
When pressure drop increases, the cover is removed and the screen/basket is cleaned or replaced. System is then restarted.

Technical FAQ

Engineering Questions

Answers to the most common technical questions about REW strainers.

What is the difference between Y-type and Basket strainers?+
Y-type strainers have a Y-shaped body and can be installed in horizontal or vertical pipelines. They are compact and suitable for high-pressure applications. Basket strainers have a cylindrical body with a removable basket screen and are designed for horizontal installation only. They offer higher dirt holding capacity and are easier to clean.
What mesh sizes are available for strainer screens?+
REW offers perforated screens in various mesh sizes from 0.5mm to 6mm perforation diameter. The mesh size is selected based on the size of particles to be removed and the flow rate requirements of the application.
How often should strainers be cleaned?+
Cleaning frequency depends on the amount of debris in the fluid and the mesh size. Generally, strainers should be inspected and cleaned when the pressure drop across the strainer increases significantly. Regular monitoring of pressure drop is recommended.
What is the difference between temporary and permanent strainers?+
Temporary strainers (cone or plate type) are used during pipeline startup to protect downstream equipment from construction debris. They are removed after system commissioning. Permanent strainers (Y-type, Basket type) remain in the pipeline for continuous filtration.
Can strainers be installed vertically?+
Y-type strainers can be installed in horizontal or vertical pipelines. Basket strainers are designed for horizontal installation only. For vertical installation, the flow must be downward through the basket.
What body materials are available?+
Standard body materials include Cast Iron (GG25), Carbon Steel (WCB/WCC), and Stainless Steel (CF8/CF8M). Screens are available in SS304 and SS316. Gaskets are available in compressed non-asbestos, spiral wound, and PTFE.
What standards do REW strainers comply with?+
REW strainers are manufactured to BS 1868 and API 600 standards. Face-to-face dimensions follow BS 1868, API 600 and DIN 3202. Flanges conform to BS 4504, ANSI B16.5, DIN 2501 and EN 1092. Testing is per API 598 and ISO 5208.
What is the pressure testing procedure for REW strainers?+
Every strainer undergoes: (1) Shell test at 1.5× working pressure for specified duration — no visible leakage permitted. All tests are documented with test certificates provided with every shipment.
Can REW manufacture custom-sized strainers?+
Yes. REW can manufacture strainers in custom sizes from DN15 to DN900, custom pressure classes, special materials, and custom mesh sizes. Custom drawings are typically delivered within 48 hours of specification confirmation.
What is the typical lead time for strainer orders?+
Standard sizes (DN50-DN300): 2-4 weeks. Large sizes (DN350-DN600): 4-6 weeks. Special sizes or exotic materials: 6-10 weeks. Emergency orders can be expedited. Exact lead times confirmed at time of quotation based on current production schedule.
What coating options are available?+
Standard coating is fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) in blue or green, 250 microns DFT. Options include: bitumen coating for underground service, hot-dip galvanizing, bare finish, and custom RAL colors. Special coatings available for corrosive environments.
What documentation is provided with each shipment?+
Standard documentation includes: Material Test Certificate (MTC) per EN 10204 3.1, Hydrostatic Test Report, Dimensional Inspection Report, Painting/Coating Certificate, Certificate of Compliance, and Installation/Maintenance Manual.
What is the warranty period for REW strainers?+
Standard warranty is 12 months from date of commissioning or 18 months from date of shipment, whichever occurs first. Warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship. Extended warranty available on request for critical applications.
How do I select the correct strainer type?+
Selection depends on: (1) Pipeline orientation — Y-type for horizontal/vertical, Basket for horizontal only, (2) Pressure class — Y-type for high pressure, (3) Dirt load — Basket type for high dirt load, (4) Mesh size — based on particle size to be removed. Our technical team provides free selection guidance.
How do I request a quotation for strainers?+
Submit your requirements via the quote form on this page, email rewpak@yahoo.com, or call +92 322 276 2222. Include: size, pressure class, material, type (Y/Basket/T-Type/Temporary), mesh size, end connection, quantity, and application details. Technical team responds within 24 hours.
