The Industry Standard for Pipeline Isolation

A gate valve is a linear-motion valve used to start or stop fluid flow. When fully open, the gate is completely removed from the flow path, resulting in minimal pressure drop. REW has been manufacturing gate valves since 1948 — supplying Pakistan's largest utilities, defence projects, and heavy industry.

Closed Position
The gate disc is fully seated against the seat rings, blocking all flow. The stem is in its lowest position with the handwheel fully clockwise.

Opening Sequence
Counter-clockwise rotation of the handwheel raises the stem. The gate lifts vertically from the seat, beginning to open the flow path.

Fully Open Position
The gate is completely withdrawn into the bonnet cavity. Full bore is established with minimal flow resistance and near-zero pressure drop.

Flow Characteristics
Gate valves are designed for on/off service only. Partial opening causes vibration and seat erosion — never used for throttling.

Bonnet

What is the difference between rising and non-rising spindle gate valves?+
In a rising spindle (OS&Y) valve, the stem rises above the handwheel as the valve opens, providing visual position indication. In a non-rising spindle valve, the stem rotates but doesn't move vertically — the gate travels up and down on the threaded stem. Rising spindle is preferred for above-ground installations; non-rising is ideal for underground chambers with limited vertical clearance.
Can gate valves be used for throttling or flow regulation?+

Are REW gate valves bi-directional?+
